Why A Sense Of Purpose Is Greater Than A Sense Of Urgency

People say terms over and over again without giving much meaning to what they bought into. We hear this when people write job descriptions demanding that prospective employees “work with a sense of urgency” and we heard throughout COVID-19 that “we are all in this together.”

Pervasive groupthink is not healthy.

In this video I discuss why working with a sense of urgency is not healthy, and not sustainable for the humans we lead.

Urgency was created in the wake of globalization and fierce online competition.

While it’s great to be aggressive and strategic in how you operate, we must remember that the humans operating under our leadership thrive on purpose.

Surveys make it clear that people are not connected to their work.

Perhaps it’s time for us to focus on a sense of purpose over a sense of urgency to get the results we want in the workplace today.
