One of the most important things that managers can do and how their people do is unplug. Unplugging is so important today where we are so connected. They’re actually countries that are working on making it illegal for employees to be on their phones after hours when companies have to shut off phones. This hasn’t hit the US yet but I do see this as something that may be coming because people are working more and more and more and they’re not getting paid more for it yet. They’re working more and we’ve seen through the pandemic that a lot of people are saying that they either feel better working from home or people have said I’m actually working so much more because I don’t feel like I can separate work and life so understand that, working from home can be a really good thing. Working from home can actually be stressful for people so the power of choice right if people can work from home. That’s great if they have an ability to work in an office and they want to do that too or a hybrid schedule, you name it, just being clear on that but helping your people unplug so that way they have time to journal. They have time to not watch TV and people have time to stretch and breathe and get you know going before reading email, they’re not hitting that email at 5 am. It’s very unhealthy so there’s actually different things that your company can probably set up different protocols on email access and other things like that to create a healthier work environment for people. Calendar blocks are very important and then getting up to walk. Walk over to your co-workers instead of using chats everybody likes to use chats nowadays I’m still old school. I get up. I go walk over to somebody from time to time. If I’m in an office environment working with people, I’ll get up and say, hey you know what can we go for a walk for five minutes and talk about XYZ.
Blood flow is key too many people are sedentary. It’s not healthy long term and you want to stay healthy for the long game of life, set a stretch timer and move timers some companies, do this on people’s computers where after an hour they have a little reminder to stretch. There are a lot of cool things out there that you can use for tech to actually get people moving so technology is not horrible technology actually can be good as a reminder. If your company starts using these sorts of things.
