In the healing process, there can be often a plateau. The plateau looks like this. The therapist can’t access childhood trauma. They miss the mark right because sometimes therapists have their own childhood trauma and until we address our own childhood trauma. If that’s present, it can be very difficult to help somebody break through childhood trauma because it’s triggering. So sometimes people will dance around the issue as opposed to going to the issue because they don’t want to go the issue themselves, because it’s too painful so this can be a challenge for somebody, because just because they’re in therapy doesn’t mean that the therapist can get to that point, because a therapist hasn’t done it for their own life. It’s very difficult.
Again, everything I share, I’ve done so when people are going through thing, it’s very important to find somebody who has lived it and who has lived a better life after it. A therapist is limited in treatment options and won’t refer out therapy oftentimes if it’s a cash-based business you know cash pay type thing you know. It’s a business model as well so we have to be very direct in the challenges because sometimes the therapist doesn’t want to leave you know have their person leave that they’ve been with for a year and have them go somewhere else because then they’re losing money perhaps so the goal though is to get people better and if they’re saying hey somatic experiencing. I’m curious about this. I want to try this. A good therapist should support that so yeah, here’s another person and that’s you know 30 minutes away, they do this. Here’s a number for you that’s what a good thought partner in care and treatment looks like as opposed to no, don’t go so understand you want to help your people and if they’re not getting better there’s often a plateau. The system does not offer more options.
It’s time to do much to classical training. Some people don’t really recognize the importance of somatic work. Other people don’t recognize EMDR or they don’t do it. They’re not trained in it so it within therapy within the whole realm, people have a lot of you know there’s a lot of good stuff and there’s also some stuff that I wish people would just knock it off because we’re dealing with human lives. It’s not about the business thing, we’re dealing with the human’s life and if they want to try something or they want to get better care somewhere else let them go do it limited sessions due to cost of therapy or access during work hours, some of these things can be overcome like I said through an employee care team. They’re allowing people to go to therapy by seeing it as a benefit and a value add for your human resources to be happier more productive and safer male, female relationships sometimes limit what people are comfortable sharing frustrated with therapy. They’re not getting results that they want they need time for self-discovery this is really important.
So, it’s important after going through counseling to have some time to reflect for personal growth and enough talking about what is wrong time to figure out what is right and how to rewire the mind and lastly for people in public safety in different roles. If they admit certain thoughts, it can potentially be the end of their career so sometimes they have things that they want to share but they don’t know if it’s safe to share it because if it’s the notes or the files then depending on the job that they hold maybe they lose their career. It can be a big mess for people so these are different reasons why people hit a plateau. It’s just important to understand the plateau.
