CONBODY CEO Coss Marte On Entrepreneurship and Life Behind Bars

Coss Marte was one of the largest drug dealers in New York City before serving time and founding Conbody Fitness. Raised in the tough streets of New York City, Coss saw the differences between the haves and the have nots. At the age of 13, he knew hustling and money might change his life like the millionaires on Wall Street who were buying drugs, and living lavish lifestyles. During his youth he was introduced to the drug trade and was eventually arrested. After high school, he built a drug empire earning $2 million dollars per year in New York City, until he was sent to prison this time to serve a seven year sentence.

In this powerful podcast interview, Coss Marte and Drew Aversa discuss the root cause of trauma and the outcomes it creates years later. We also discuss systems change and reasons why the United States prison system has a higher level of violence and people returning to prison (76 %) compared to Nordic countries (20%) that see prison as resource to change people’s lives offering a more humane approach and access to programs.

After leaving prison, Coss stayed true to his entrepreneurial passion, sleeping on his mother’s couch for two years, while founding CONBODY Fitness. CONBODY Fitness is a workout program that has trained over 50,000 people online. Taking what he learned in prison, turning his health around from being severely overweight with high cholesterol, Coss developed a body weight workout that can be done anywhere, including environments with limited space or equipment, making this workout accessible to busy professionals and urban dwellers.

If you love stories about personal transformation and seeing someone overcoming adversity despite the odds, this a conversation you won’t want to miss.
